Last week we had the pleasure of attending Steve’s brother’s Graduation from Lehigh University (woo hoo!!!). Since we were going to be in the general area, Steve and I decided to make a long weekend out of the trip and explored Philly. I had never been and Steve was there over 10 years ago, so I think the trip was definitely warranted.

Besides the obvious trips to the historical sites, I was very excited about the food. What else is new? Here are a few of the highlights from our trip:

Gino's Philly Cheese Steak

What is a trip to Philly without a Philly Cheese Steak? Gino’s and Pat’s were both recommended to us, and of course they were right across the street from each other. We decided to go with Gino’s – ordering it “with” (in philly-speak meaning “with onions”) and American. Yumm. We didn’t have a chance to try Pat’s because of the….

Now this is my kind of place!

Pork tacos (yes, Mexican food at an Italian festival) from Los Taquitos de Pueblo. Steve has decided that from now on, all our tacos will have pineapple on them.

Italian Pastries anyone? Absolutely sinful cannolis from Termini Bros.

And, being that it was 90 degrees and sunny, we snatched up a mango Italian ice.

But wait, there’s more! Saturday night we wined and dined at Amis.

It was an amazing meal. The apps were definitely the star of the show: Eggplant Caponata, Mortadella with hazelnut honey, Cucumber salad with pickled onions, marscaopne cheese, and dill. *sigh* I was in heaven.

So that was our little eating adventure in the great city of Philadelphia. Thank goodness for all of the walking, or I think I would have needed to be rolled back to Connecticut.
